In the construction and facility management industries, planning and budgeting are critical determinants of project success. Traditional methods often result in scope creep, inaccurate cost forecasts, and fragmented communication between financial teams and technical project teams. Building Information Modelling (BIM) integrates cost and time dimensions, enabling professionals to link design data directly to schedules and budgets.
Globally, BIM-driven planning and budgeting (often referred to as 5D BIM) is helping organisations improve transparency, reduce waste, and deliver projects on time and within budget. In the South African context, where public and private projects are under pressure to demonstrate both value for money and accountability, these skills are becoming indispensable.
This masterclass introduces ACPM members and allied professionals to the use of BIM for project planning and budgeting. Participants will learn how to set up work breakdown structures, link model elements to cost codes, and forecast cash flow while using dashboards for real-time financial management.
